Gippsland NDIS Short Term Care Services
Australians living with a disability in Gippsland can received temporary support and accommodation through Gippsland NDIS Short Term Care Services.
Everyone deserves the chance to live as independently as they possibly can, even when they have a disability. Gippsland NDIS Short Term Care Services offer a safe and welcoming environment where participants can receive care for a short period.
NDIS short term care services, known as Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Assistance provides support and housing for NDIS participants, ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
This gives the individuals and their families a much-needed break from their usual routines. This may also be referred to as respite care.
There are different types of short-term care:
- In home respite – A support worker provides care in the participant’s home while the primary caregiver takes a break.
- Community-based respite – The participant stays in a facility like a group home or respite centre for a short period. They can interact with others and engage in activities.
- Host family respite – A participant stays with another family for a brief period. This offers a change of environment and opportunities for social interaction.
- Emergency respite – When a primary caregiver is suddenly unavailable due to illness or emergency, this provides immediate, temporary support.

Short Term Care Explained
- STA allows participants to live aways from their home for up to 28 days a year. This is flexible, for example, can be used for a couple of weeks at once or several weekends throughout the year.
- The service offers a planned break for caregivers, preventing burnout and allowing time to recharge.
- Every participant has goals, and this can help them work towards those goals by providing opportunities to develop new skills, increase independence and enjoy social experiences.
- Funding usually covers the cost of care, accommodation, food and activities.
