What Our Critical Care Service Includes

Our Critical Care Services provide a comprehensive suite of supports tailored to meet complex needs.
Depending on each person’s situation, this can include:

  • 24-hour Nursing and Personal Care – We offer constant, registered nursing care as well as personal support (e.g., assistance with toileting, showering, medication management) to ensure participant well-being and safety at all times.
  • Health Monitoring & Clinical Support – Our team regularly monitors vital signs, manages complex health conditions, and liaises with medical practitioners. We also coordinate clinical care plans, ensuring continuity and responsiveness to changing health needs.
  • Behavioural and Psychological Support – For participants who require behaviour support, we work with behaviour specialists and therapists to implement positive behaviour strategies, crisis response plans, and ongoing psychological care.
  • Therapeutic & Capacity-Building Support – We facilitate access to allied health services (e.g., occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy) and provide capacity-building supports to help participants develop or maintain everyday living skills.
  • Specialised Accommodation & Environment – Our homes are designed or adapted to meet critical care requirements — including accessibility features, safety modifications, and supportive environments, ensuring both comfort and protection for residents.

How NDIS Funding Works for Critical Care

When it comes to NDIS funding, Critical Care Services typically draw on one or more support categories, depending on individual plans and needs:

  • Core Supports: Many of our critical care services — such as daily personal care, nursing, and health monitoring — can be funded via the core supports budget, which is often the most flexible component in a participant’s plan.
  • Capacity Building: For therapeutic interventions, behavioural supports, and skill development, funding may be drawn from the capacity building budget.
  • Capital Supports (in some cases): If specialist home modifications or equipment are required as part of ensuring a safe critical care environment, these may be funded under the capital supports budget.

We work closely with participants, their support coordinators, and NDIS planners to ensure we structure the supports in a way that aligns with NDIS funding guidelines — making sure they are “reasonable and necessary,” as required by the NDIS.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for Complex Care Services under the NDIS?
Complex Care Services are designed for participants with very high support needs — often due to complex medical conditions, high-risk health issues, or behaviours of concern. Eligibility depends on the participant’s NDIS plan, functional assessments, and individual goals, along with a determination that these supports are “reasonable and necessary.”
Do I need to have Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) to access Complex Care Services?
Not always. While some critical care arrangements happen in SDA-type settings, Complex Care Services can also be provided in other types of licensed or registered accommodation, as long as the environment supports the participant’s high-level needs. What matters most is that the living arrangement meets their medical, safety, and care requirements.
Can NDIS “Core Supports” really fund 24-hour care?
Yes — many of the supports in our Critical Care Service (e.g., personal care, nursing, daily assistance) are eligible under the core supports budget in a participant’s NDIS plan.
That said, how the funding is allocated depends on the individual plan, supports already in place, and whether the level of care is justified in the plan review.
