Annie first came to My Life Accommodation and Care Solutions when her son, Joel, reached out seeking a Supported Independent Living home that would truly understand and support his mum’s needs. After several conversations and property visits, Joel and Lisa worked closely together to find a home that felt safe, welcoming, and suited to Annie’s daily routines and wellbeing.

Annie lives with early-onset dementia, which means she can sometimes forget where she is, lose track of time, or struggle to recall familiar faces, even those she loves deeply. Understanding how important family connection is, Joel set up an iPad with a specialised stand, allowing Annie to comfortably video-call her children and grandchildren. This simple tool has become a lifeline, giving her the reassurance of seeing her family whenever she needs them.

When Annie moved into her new SIL home, she was welcomed by her housemate Pat, and something truly special happened, a friendship blossomed almost instantly. The two now share a beautiful daily rhythm:

  • enjoying art and craft together
  • laughing over episodes of Mr Bean
  • sitting at the dining table for meals that feel like home
  • supporting each other with gentle companionship

Annie’s family visit regularly, filling the home with familiar voices and the joy of grandchildren coming through the door. At My Life Accommodation and Care Solutions, our SIL homes are always open to connection, family, friends, and community are part of the heartbeat of our service.

Throughout April, Annie continued to stay active and engaged in the community. She enjoyed outings to Five Farms Café, joined a bus trip to a lavender farm, and visited local parks, playgrounds, and shops, including her favourites, Bunnings and Kmart. These moments of routine, exploration, and joy play an important role in supporting her wellbeing and sense of independence.

Annie’s journey is a beautiful reminder that with the right environment, compassionate support, and meaningful connection, life can continue to flourish, even in the face of memory loss. We are honoured to walk alongside her and her family.
